Goodyear Celebrates
125 Years

In 1898, Frank Seiberling borrowed $3,500 from his brother-in-law and used it on a down payment for an old strawboard factory on East Market Street in Akron, Ohio. On August 29 of that year, Goodyear was officially incorporated. And on August 29, 2023, Goodyear celebrated its 125-year anniversary.

1898

Company founded by Frank Seiberling with just 13 workers. Produced bicycle & carriage tyres, horseshoe pads and rubber bands.

1905

Wingfoot logo chosen by Frank Seiberling.

1912

Opened first overseas office in London, England.

1915

Expanded to South America and Asia / Pacific regions.

1916

Became world’s largest tyre company. Builds iconic clocktower at Akron HQ.

1917

Built its first blimp: The Pilgrim.

1942

Manufactured FG-1D Corsair and F2-G2 “Super” Corsair fighter jets.

1949

First tyre company to advertise on television.

1950

Produced 500 millionth tyre.

1963

Goodyear tyres set speed record of 600 MPH. Company produces 1 Billionth tyre.

1971

Goodyear tyres were first on the moon.

1977

Launched “Tiempo” – World’s first All-Season tyre.

1983

Produced 3 Billionth tyre at Danville, Virginia truck tyre plant.

1992

Produced first run-flat tyre for Chevrolet Corvette.

2013

Moved to new, LEED Gold certified Headquarters in Akron, Ohio.

2014

Launched Wingfoot One, first of all-new high-tech airship fleet.

2017

Unveiled revolutionary concepts at Geneva Auto Show.

2020

Launched ‘AndGo’ vehicle servicing platform and Goodyear Ventures at Consumer Electronics Show.

2021

Goodyear acquired Cooper Tire & Rubber Company.

2023

Goodyear celebrates its 125-year anniversary.
